Members prepare for general elections in 6 to 8 weeks: Imran Khan

Former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan has said in a meeting with members of the Punjab Assembly that in 6 to 8 weeks the trumpet of the next general elections can be sounded.

Has the road to the general elections been paved?

After the defeat in the by-elections of Punjab, will the ruling party Pakistan Muslim League-N still stick to its announcement of completing the term of the National Assembly?

Some analysts still believe that at least Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif would want the general elections to be pushed forward and the prime minister decide on key appointments after a few months and then go ahead and announce the elections.

However, according to analysts, pressure will be increased by Imran Khan to immediately abolish the federal government and announce new elections.

These by-election results will strengthen the PTI in the sense that the party can win the election without any ‘support’.

If PTI had lost these elections in the recent alignment, it would have further established the impression that PTI is a party of jalse processions which won the last election with the help of the establishment and cannot win any election without their support.

Thus, this success will leave its impact on the next elections in the sense that PTI can win even without the establishment.

Political analyst Professor Rasool Bakhsh Raees says, “The opposition has been exposed.” I did not have this impression before. Those who doubted Imran Khan that he needed the support of crutches, are themselves saying that the Imran Khan who was in 2018 is not the same now, he has become a national leader. If there was an impression, now it will completely disappear.

Sarwar Bari says that “if there was an anti-establishment impression, it was only to the extent of the electable. Now after these elections, this impression should disappear completely.”
