In the middle of Pakistan’s financial hub Karachi, music lover Muhammad Hussain continues his father’s legacy by collecting vinyl records in a two-bedroom apartment.

“I have almost 90 percent of Pakistani songs released in 1947.”

 

In 2006, Hussain’s father was forced to close the music center due to the digital revolution. But after graduating from college, Hussain refused to let his father’s collection go to waste.

 

“People all over the world contacted me and asked for the records they needed. Sometimes I will give If I have a special copy Sometimes they send me a collection,” he said.

 

Hussain said he was always looking for records he didn’t have in his collection. He believes the sound quality in the original recordings cannot be found on YouTube or other digital formats.

 

“The sound quality of the recording is very clean. When you listen to it, it feels as though the musicians are singing right in front of you,” Hussain said as he inserted a record into a vintage gramophone.

 

When asked how people around you reacted when they found out about your collection. which he said “It’s a very difficult task because some people are mocking what I’m doing in this digital age. But I think nothing matters if you are passionate about something.”
