Like many previous carmakers in India, the Hero MotoCorp is a backwards electric two-wheeler. Startups such as Ather Energy and Ola Electric, backed by Softbank Group, have an initial advantage.
“Although we may want to launch this product sooner than we have, But we have to do it right for the great benefit of everyone,” Hero MotoCorp president Pawan Munjal told reporters at the launch event in Jaipur.
The company will begin taking reservations on Oct. 10 and deliveries will begin in December.
Electric cars account for 2% of all two-wheeler sales in India. But sales are accelerating as people stop using petrol scooters due to rising fuel prices.
