In the Commonwealth Games, New Zealand beat Pakistan hockey team defeated Pakistan by four goals to one. In the match played in Birmingham, the Pakistani team played a good first quarter against New Zealand.
At the end of the first quarter, the match remained scoreless, but when the second quarter started, the Kiwi team dominated Pakistan.
Kiwi player Hugo scored two goals in two minutes. Ghazanfar Ali scored the first goal for Pakistan in the 25th minute. Kiwi player Thomas made the score 1-3 in the third quarter. Len Sam scored another goal in the last minutes of the match to give New Zealand a 1-4 victory.

Pakistan played their first match in the event against South Africa. The match between Pakistan and South Africa was tied with 2-2 goals after a sensational match. In the event, Pakistan team has managed to get only one point after two matches. After the defeat against New Zealand, the green shirts’ chances of reaching the semi-finals have decreased.
The men’s hockey competition at the Commonwealth Games features ten teams divided into two groups. Pakistan have been placed in Pool A alongside Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Scotland. Mind you, Pakistan has never won a gold medal in the Commonwealth Games in the past.
Pakistan’s best performance was a silver medal at the 2006 event in Melbourne, while the Green Shirts also managed to win a bronze medal at the 2002 Games in Manchester.
